I agree with you Shivali. Now the Indian woman has come out of the darkness. This poem was probably composed during the 1970s and 1980s. There is no discrimination between men and women nowadays in the suburbs. However, the condition in rural areas has not improved very much since that time. The pace of development is quite slow in the interiors of India.

Thanks, Shivali! It is interesting to note that you have mentioned the status of women now in India being at par with men. Does it apply to all segments of the society or only to women who are from the academe? I really do not have any idea as my knowledge is based primarily on what I read. I am looking forward to your piece of thought on this.

Yes Sejal you are right !This poem what all an Indian women goes through in her life.Ups and Downs. But you must also agree that this poem is somehow about the old orthodox society ,today Indian women are at par with men. Now she's no more helpless and compelled but yes still truthful and family oriented .

Thanks, Sejal!
Perhaps you can write more about the mythological relations of the holy river. That would be interesting. I would really appreciate if you can find more poems in Hindi for us to listen to. Of course. please write an introduction so we would have an idea, too.

This poem represents the obstacles that come in the flow of river Ganga, which is a holy Indian river. Ganga is also a female Hindu name, so this poem is somewhat related to the stuggles of an Indian woman. The poem explains the Indian woman as "helpless" and "compelled" who has always tried to be truthful in her life. Besides, it also explains the mythological relations of th holy river.

Ma'am, if you would like to listen to more Hindi poems, I will try to help you find some poems. Some of the good Hindi poets are : Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Ram Vilas Sharma, Maithili Sharan Gupt and the most importantly, Rabindranath Tagore.
